Hilary, thank you for your comments! I’ll never forget that first wonderful email you sent about Aaron. Your observation was spot on. You had a real hand in my decision to bring him here. And now, I’m pulling other dogs from the same shelter and helping them find their forever homes. It’s crazy how life works!

Hi Mary and Aaron, WOW : ) What an amazing video and fabulous story. Mary, it’s great to see you constantly ‘working’ Aaron in small but positive ways (in the video) – to help him stay moving and engaged with his environment. To me the most powerful moment – was when he does actually run TO YOU and engage with you – not worrying about his surroundings! That’s super for the two of you – and for any (once upon a time or some times) ‘fearful’ dog. Oh, LOVE the song too.

Thank you, Lizzie! There’ll be other adventures, I know it. For now, I’m going to use all the energy it takes to create a blog post and put it into rescuing and rehoming some other dogs. I’ll look forward to sharing that journey as well….

Thank you, Deborah…. I figured you for one of those who had a sense that he wasn’t going anywhere! What a joy he is and I’ll tell ya, Deborah, I have treasured your comments throughout this journey. I was never alone… that’s for sure. I always, and still do, feel well supported in my adventures with dogs!

Susan! Thank you so much. And, as you know by now… I’m so looking forward to continuing my rescue work with you folks in Darlington! I’m so very impressed with the Darlington crew. So kind and considerate and ready to answer questions. So, in the next few weeks, a few more southern dogs will show up on this website…

I’m a little, no, a lot, late to this blog post. I’m so glad I stopped by. I’m thrilled you and Aaron are going forward as a team. Although I never said anything, the truth is I just can’t imagine you without Aaron and him without you. Failed foster? Are you kidding? You two are souls mates! And your expression of grief….well, I so relate. The grief I have experienced over and through the loss of my dogs is like none other. Utterly and totally wrenching. And, yet, I, like so many of us, keep coming back for more. Thank you for your beautiful writing. Looking forward to more….when you’re ready.

Yes, Gordon… as you know, there’s often no way to adequately express how deep the bond goes with them. We try, but we fail. It’s one of those mysteries of connection with a species other than our own….

And, it’s what we sign up for…coping with the loss of them… when we make a pact with the universe to be their parent for a time. The hardest part, for sure…

A very moving piece. Go Aaron! I mean, stay Aaron!!! Dusa Dog is about nine now and I am concerned already, although the vet says she is in very good shape for that and all her problems. Thanks to your blog post, we will all love our dogs a little more – as if that is possible…
