I call Sassy my 2 year old because she is like having a 2 year old child around, a very strong one at that. When we first got Sassy the interaction with her and my cats didn’t start well. We kept them separated for a few days to give Sassy a chance to settle in but she barked and went crazy whenever we tried to show her the cats. Sadly, I was almost going to bring her back. I had called Mary several times and she was very supportive and assured me Sassy had been okay around her cat. As a last attempt I sat with Sassy and the cats and fed Sassy a lot of deli chicken. Needless to say she didn’t care much about the cats after that.
Sassy also used to go really crazy when she saw other dogs while out walking. She would almost seem ferocious until one night we were walking and I felt a nudge behind me. There was a loose Alaskan Husky that came right up to Sassy, Gasp! Sassy didn’t do anything to my delight, and now we let her stop and say hello to the other dogs when walking and she really enjoys that!
One day we had to run out to the store and rather than put Sassy in her crate we decided to leave her in the kitchen with the dog gate closed. While we were gone Sassy jumped up on the table and ate one of my mother’s day flowers, though we didn’t actually see her do it. I knew it was her because I could smell the flower on her breathe. Then we were standing there shaking our heads saying we couldn’t believe she jumped up on the table and low and behold there she went and jumped up on the table like a cat. Luckily for us that was the last time she did that although just the other day my boyfriend pulled out a chair to sit down and up she went, as if he pulled the chair out for her. We were cracking up!
Sassy does high fives and the other day I was sitting on the couch with Sassy and my older daughter Mercedes. I picked up a store flyer and tried to look at it. She kept putting her paw on it as if to say “I’m here and I want attention.” Again we were cracking up! Sassy loves toys and sleeps wherever she wants; the bed the couch and sometimes she even likes the cool floor. Sassy enjoys trips to the beach, swimming in the pool and loves to run in the field. She sits like a child in the car and loves to go for rides. Sassy provides us with lots of love and affection as we do with her and we enjoy Sassy. She is definitely a member of our family and she keeps us on our toes.
My heart goes out to all the other dogs in their search for good homes. God love Mary and all the rescuer for providing the publicity that spreads the information much further. Everybody is working diligently to save them! My brother and sister-in law, Bill & Leslie adopted Aspen (now Lilly), the Jack Russell mix from Mary’s Rescue, I think in May. I know she is doing well and she is very sweet! Sassy and Lilly have not met yet but I’m sure they will soon.
I was surprised by all the nice e-mail responses to the pictures of Sassy on Facebook. I’m glad everybody gets a chance to see she is happy and doing well.
Thank you, Christine
